West Bromwich Division
The Girlguiding division of West Bromwich is a town in the Metropolitan Borough of Sandwell, West Midlands, situated to the northwest of Birmingham. West Bromwich is known for the manufacturing site of Salter scales and has a local school named after the owner of the company. Workers from this site in 1878 founded the town’s famous football club, West Bromwich Albion. This club was one of the twelve founder members of the football league in 1888. The local cricket team is West Bromwich Dartmouth Cricket Club and is based near to the football ground.
Madeline Carroll, an English actress famous for her role in Alfred Hitchcock’s ‘The 39 Steps’ was born in Herbert Street West Bromwich. Emma Sproson who was born in the area in 1867 was a well known suffragette.
Tourist attractions include West Bromwich Manor House and Bishop Asbury’s Cottage.
